Default Blast from the Past

Some of you old-timey WattFlyer members may remember this post from a few years ago, for you new folks, this was the actual thread text made to video.

When I saw the screen shot I thought it was going to be the one with the EDF jet. I watch that one every now and then and still get a huge laugh out of it, since it's so very true. This was a great one too!

But stacked Super Tigre 10 motors are better than ANY motor on the market!

Sounds like "alternative facts" otherwise known as "fake news"

It always amuses me that people that have not actually been a modeler or a good flyer, will sometimes come up with the most impossible stories.

I had a guy in the mid 70's telling a group of people, all about a scale F-4 Phantom, all metal, retracts, bombs and every other thing you could think of, wing span roughly = arm span, total weight 30 lbs, flying with 2 jet motors. The plane would roar down the runway for 50' then turn and accelerate straight up until you almost couldn't see it. Of course it was owned by a "friend"

I listened for a while, then explained that the only jet motors available were the Dyna Jet and it's little brother the Tiger Jet. He said they were Dyna Jets. Then I told him that even a highly modified Dyna jet could only put out a hair over 5 lbs thrust. (I knew this because I knew people involved with control line jet racing.)

I had one question for him.
How do you pick up a 30 lb object with only 10 lbs of lifting force?

He suddenly got real quiet.

Today with our true jet engines being very powerful, it has been done, but not back in the 70's

I like the one where the husband tells his wife to come flying and take pictures of his 22 planes. She say's "lets bring the dog".

He says "No.....I need all 22 planes and theres no room for the dog. Besides I may crash and need all 22 planes to fly and you take pictures..." ect ...ect.. His logic made perfect sense to me.
