I got my son a Hobby Lobby Yak 55 for Christmas. We got her all put together today and hope to get some flying time on it while we are visiting Grandma in Tennessee over the next week.
I put the HL 400XT motor swinging a 10x3.8 SF prop. Hitec HS-55's for servos. A dynam 18amp ESC and Spektrum AR6000.
This is a neat little plane that went together really well. The only thing I didn't like is the flimsy pushrods that are provided in the kit. Took care of that though with some heavier gauge stuff I hand on hand.
Anyway, wish him (us) luck with it.

I would recommend it. I know we haven't flown it yet but based on assembly, fit and finish and all, it seems like a real nice plane for the money.
I'm not much into flat foamies but I think I could get to liking this one.

I still haven't ordered a new motor for my HL Yak. I need to get on that so it will be ready for those few and far between days to fly in winter.

Ooooohhh Bill, The man that said he would never own a flat foamie has gone over to the dark side.
Wait till you fly it. You will really enjoy it. You'll learn more on that thing than any other plane because you won't be afraid to try stuff with it. I doubt you've tried inverted flight dragging the rudder on the ground with your WACO but you can try it with this one.

you're going to have a blast with it bill. i havent flown the HL one, but i LOVE my flat foamies. like tom said, its just a ball throwing a plane around with reckless abandon and not worrying to much because the airframes are priced so low it wont hurt. oh and dont forget to stock up on foam safe ca for those quick repairs at the field when you go TOO crazy.

I bought a couple of those (blue) a while back on sale for $12.50 apiece. Tried building a really light one for indoor flying and got it down to 8.5 oz. Worked good until the little coreless servos I had on it quit working intermittently. Caused a few concerns from the spectators.
I did find that the foam gets really brittle at -10*F. We had a clear calm day and I wanted to trim it out outside with a little more room. It is now a few .1 oz. heavier.

Bill, if you are close to Nashville, you should go to Hobby Lobby. You can see every one of their assembled airplanes in the store and they are great folks.

Found it; from their website: "If you are in the Nashville, TN area on any Thursday when the weather is good, come join us for Radio Controlled Model Airplane flying at Edwin Warner Park in West Nashville. We start at 8:00 AM."

ummmmmm.... No!
We are in Knoxville Jim, 20 miles east of Knoxville actually, I would love to get over there one of these days but it's still a couple hours from here at best and we would have to go through Harriman where that big sludge spill is.

I think we'll stay on this end of the state this trip!

Tom, I did not buy it for ME! It is Mason's...
I tried talking him out of it but he really wanted it so I caved. I do look forward to giving it a whirl.
ummmmmm.... No!
Don't fly that thing Bill or you will end up buying another one for yourself.

Heck, even my wife liked the look of them. Bekah wants daddy to get the pink one.....(I figured that would give you a chuckle). I told her no, so she pointed out the red, white and blue one.

Kev, go with what Bekah says. Pink is very fitting for you.
