Default Plane tracking camera.

I know most RC pilots already know how to make a tracker like this , but there are those that still sometimes coment that they could not find someone to help video a maiden flight etc. so I decided to write this up .

I started with a prototipe and since it worked so well after a few mods I decided to keep it . For that reason it might not look as neat as it could look.

The tracker has to date not once failed to keep track of a plane , even when the plane goes out of video range. I had a plane up to 743m and it still had it. I have the video to prove it.

The tracker work at very long range and you never need to charge the batteries .
You dont need a flying plane to calibrate it , stationary objects can be used.
The tracker can be adapted for use with almost any camera , the only limitation being size , heavy camcorders might not be such a good idea.
It tracks any size plane , big and small.

This is what the tracker looks like.

How about some negative coment on the tracker anyone?
Would it ever be sensible to have some elaborate elctronic system to do it instead?

Hey now, thats using your head for somthing besides a hat rack.

Yeah I tried the same idea with my flycamone, but it didnt work too well as the flycam doesnt auto-focus so after the plane is about 20ft away its fuzzy.
So I assume that camera has an auto-focus? And what brand/model is it?

That is my cellphone on the hat , it takes video at 640x480 30 FPS . I use my digital camera as well , but usualy have the camera in the plane and the cellphone on my hat.

Back in '92 I mounted a VHS-C camcorder on my l'il Bell Shell, with an aperture ahead of my right eye to aim the camera. It could be zoomed in and out while flying.

Ah , that's a deluxe model.
I think in those days if you wanted something you built it. Nowadays people tend to look for it in a shop.

Default I love it

Sometimes the simplest solution is the best, and in this case, I give it a thumbs up and am now kicking myself for trying to overcomplicate the process. I'm going to try that solution out, be it, will probably have to get an army helmet to mount a serious camera on.
