Default pole count

All things being equal, what does increasing the pole count do to an electric motor? (ie some are 14 poles, others 28 poles).

Thank you,

Rob

Reduces the kv rating, makes the motor spin slower but with more torque.

But if two motors had the same kv, but a different number of poles, what would be the effect?

If the specs are similar, i.e. similar weight and size, similar kv, then I'd expect them to perform in a very similar way regardless of pole count.

To get the same Kv, the motor with the fewer poles would need more turns (and thus maybe thinner gauge wire)... or the motor with the greater number of poles would need fewer turns (and would use heavier gauge wire)....that might well affect performance.
