Question Pant repairs

Hi Everybody

I have a set of wheel pants (fibergass) and would like to repair the cracks and make them alittle stronger for those hard landings, any ideas, I was thinking about alot of differant angles for this project, gorrilla glue, apiece of aluminum plate, epoxy, hot glue spread out on the inside,..................

Need to keep it as lite as possibe, all the weight of the pant is on one location the alum. gear (struts?) where it connects.

Thanks for your assistance,....

If they are GRP (Glass Fibre) ... then you rough up the surface inside ... polyester resin and light finish cloth from local GRP shop .. making sure all air is expelled from under and cloth is pressed to wheel pant.

That will create an extra skin where YOU want it.

Honest answer ? Forget the other ideas you had ...

Ditto. You fix glass with glass, the other stuff is no where near as strong.

Use something like .5 or .75 glass sheets, and do a cross hatch pattern with the weave. This will give you a stronger repair.

OK and work on your landings.

Previous owners did the breaking, she was crashed twice by the orig. owner then passed it to another pilot who crashed her twice as well. When she came too me her wheel pants had already sustained major damage along with the gear ripped from the fuse. She has been rebuilt and flown twice now, shes a real floater. I'm not sure why the other pilots had suce a hard time with her?

Thanks

Wheel pants are often the first thing to hit the ground, if thin ABS plastic they become cracked and ugly in no time. I epoxy a layer or two of fibreglass fabric inside the flimsy pants and cowls to make them last longer. BTW, Park Flyer Plastics sells after market replacement ABS plastic pants, and cowls for many brands and types of models:
