Default WattFlyer Scratchbuild Contest Number Two

WattFlyer Scratchbuild Contest Number Two Guidelines

General Rules

1. The build must be your own design or be a modification of existing plans (such as changing tail surfaces, modifying the fuselage, adding ailerons, increasing or decreasing the size, etc). No kits or short kits are allowed. There are no specific design requirements, so, let your imagination run free.

2. The build must start on September 1, 2008 or after. The only exceptions will be those who have very recently started a build and the majority of the build will be completed during the specific contest period. A photo of the starting point in the build must be included in the build thread. The starting photo must be posted in the build thread by September 12, 2008.

3. The build must be completed by December 31, 2008.

4. Multiple entries will be allowed but a build thread must be created for each build. Links to each build thread will be entered in this thread. Before judging, all comments not posted by the builder will be removed from the build thread.

5. Build materials will be balsa, foam or a combination of both.

6. Power system will, of course, be electric but other than that, it is builder’s choice.

7. Planes entered will be required to fly successfully. Proof that your design is capable of flying will consist of an in-flight photo or video, posted in your build thread. If you are not able to provide proof that your design is able to fly, your entry will be disqualified.

8. Voting will be held from January 1, 2009 to January 14, 2009. Each entry can receive votes in the following categories:

Best Looking

Best Flying

Most Homely

Most creative design

Best build thread

Each person voting will get to vote once in each category, for a total of 5 votes. The votes may be spread over 5 different builds. The build with the most total votes will be the overall winner.

If you are not able to provide a flying video, you won’t be able to receive any votes in the Best Flying category. This is sort of a bonus category to earn an extra vote for making the effort to post a video of your creation in flight.

Now lets get building.

The prize the winner of the contest will receive will be the Mercury Adhesives Caddy filled with Mercury Adhesives, made right here in the USA. These are great quality CA's and we can thank Atlanta Hobby for donating this prize.

Looks good to me. I am curious about the start date though. If by some remote chance I finish my first project in time to build another, the second plane would not meet the last part of rule #2.
The starting photo must be posted in the build thread by <st1:date alt="" 0="" year=" border=">September 12, 2008</st1:date>
It's not likely that I even need to be worried about the above scenario though so no biggie for me. Here is a link for my entry into the contest.

Maybe it was not clear, but that only refers to anyone who has a project he has just barely started. We need to see the starting point posted by 9/12/08. Any second, third and so on, build threads can start anytime during the build period, but must be finished by 12/31/08.

That answered 1/2 my questions as well.

Im also curious about #4 - the requirement to delete all post NOT by the builder? What is the reason for that - and I didnt know that was even possible, so how do you do it?

Since one of the contest items is the build thread itself, only the builders posts will be left in each thread. This makes it easier to review the threads and removes all the other extraneous comments.

A moderator can remove the posts. Ron probably didn't catch that when he reviewed the rules.

Default Editing Posts?

Hi Jim,
Yes, I agree that the build thread will be easier to navigate, read and vote on, if it doesn't contain posts other than the build.
Which doesn't mean Members shouldn't post during the build. If you want to show support, ask questions or add comments, go right ahead. They'll stay up for the duration of the contest.
But, when it comes time to vote, I'll delete all the non-builder posts for clarity and brevity purposes. Wish I could say I'll save'm, but I can't. "Delete" means just that.

Nice work Jim! Looking forward to the builds.

May I suggest that everyone that has entered the contest standardize or at least make mention that their build thread is part of the scratchbuilder's contest #2?

Something like: (plane name) Build Thread for Scratchbuild Contest #2 would make it easier for us to find and know they are part of the contest.

Is the build thread to be posted as a new, seperate thread in the 'Scratch build' section?

Yes, start a new build thread with Scratchbuild Contest # 2 included in the title in the Scratch Build forum. Then post a link to that thread in this thread, so we can find your build thread. If it is a pure foam build, then start the build thread in the Foamies Forum.

Actually, if it is a pure foam build, it will find more interest with foam builders if it is in the Foam Forum. let's leave it there unless it causes a problem with the voting. I don't think voting will be a problem, but if it is, Ron can move it to the Scratch Build forum.

I'll be making an all balsa bird. Foam annoys me . I'll probably just scratch a Piper look-alike. Dunno yet, but I am definately in this .

If you post the plans in your build thread, folks might feel you thread is more complete and vote for you in that category.
