By the way, I flew mine and she was really getting with it until I tried to pull a double inside loop and the wings snapped. I was using skewers. Note to self...double the skewers in the wings.

So...starting Nasty number four.

I have destroyed everyplane I've flown that wasn't a RTF. All of my RTF are still flying but none of my scratch builds or ARFs are. I believe it is because I struggle so much getting the right CG. By the time I get it right th eplane is in shambles.

I have some work to do to get my CG forward. I'm still pretty tail heavy. I'm wondering if I should try to take the paper off the foam board. It might be tough since the plane is already assembled though...

I went with CF rod in the wings and dowel down the fuselage. I hope that does the trick. Good luck with #4

My Nasty has gone through a few changes. I added an extra wing spar...just taped it across the bottom. Worked out great. My horizontal stab worked its way lose. It always had too much twist so when I fixed it I added some triangle stock in the corners to stiffen it up. I have been doing some brief hovering. Nothing more than just a few seconds but I'm getting there. I'll try to get some video up as soon as I get a replacement gear for my motor.

Default Jury In On Building Materials

BobbyDog, If your out there, I've tried all kinds of mat. on the Nasty and of course foamboard. The verdict is in and foamboard is heavy and fragil, More fragile than one might expect. I've built a new nasty of BlueCore FFF and I doubled the fuse. and used carbon fiber and added EPP to the nose about 4" and used some red duct tape on the bottom of the nose to re-enforce the nose. It flew great and was about 4.5 oz. less than the foam board.

Nice work John. I have only ever used Depron myself, and its great stuff. You should really try it sometime. The only problem is that it seems hard to find for some people. I can get it here in Canada at, they call it styrofoam though, not Depron. Good luck and happy flying!

Well, I finally maidened my Nasty today (yeah, took me long enough)...and it didn't last very long. It took off almost vertical out of my hand on a 2410-09 with a 1170 prop on 3s. Either my cg was too far back or I had too much up elevator dialed in, but I couldn't get it level, it just kept wanting to nose up. 5 seconds later it stalls, then goes nose first straight down. I broke the prop, bent to motor shaft, and broke the stick the motor was mounted on. Oh well. It was a learning experience. It was pretty much what I expected for the maiden of my first scratchbuilt plane. Better luck next time I guess...

That sounds oh so familiar. That's what happened to one of my Nastys and my Zactly bipe.

It really sucks.
