Default 4th Annual E-Fest Event Coverage, Feb 7th & 8th, 2009

The 4th Annual E-Fest is being put on by Great Planes on the February 7th & 8th, 2009 in Champaign, Il. RCU is proud to announce that will be providing complete coverage of the event and have a complete writeup in the RCU Magazine. RCU Helicopter Moderator BarracudaHockey and myself will be at the event providing the coverage for everybody, BarracudaHockey will be giving coverage of all things helicopter and I will be providing the airplane aspects of the event. We wanted to start this thread here as an announcement of the event and a place to discuss it as well. As the event gets kicked off we will post pictures from the event right here so that everybody can see what's going on.

If there is anything in particular you would like to see please feel free to post it here and we'll keep our eyes peeled and do our best to get it included in the coverage.

Please feel free to discuss the event here in this thread.

Talking I'll Be There

I'm planning on going. This will be my first time. The Toledo show is the only one I've been to and it's nothing compared to EFest ahd the JRFest. JRFest was cancelled this year so it's EFest!

It's only less than 300 miles round trip for us so it should not be too bad.

We're planning on going up to the Chanute AFB Air Museum in the morning and catching the combat and other stuff after lunch.

I suppose that since this is a college town that there will be plenty of places to eat near EFest. Any suggestions?

See you there!

This is my first event too. I am really looking forward to it.

Good idea on hitting the museum. They need all the money they can get. Its really a nice museum with a ton of potential but its a little under funded. Last time I was there (last spring I think) they where in the middle of restoring a mustang. I would of had a ton of good pics on some internal detail but of course my camera battery died

As far as food, Its a college town in the middle of a real town. There is food everywhere. Getting good food within walking distance could be a problem though. Its a big campus and its cold out there.

CU there
Matt

Looks like there's still some work being done to the P-51.

Wish I was flying at E-Fest this year. Maybe next. I'm just going to look this year. I'm too busy getting a business started right now and money is tight.

Talking Cruise'n & Lunch

For me it's:
2 hr to E-Fest
---never been
2 1/2 hr to JR Fest but it was blown down this year
---never been, wanted to go
3 1/2 hr to Weak Signals in Toledo
---went once year before last - 2007
---this is more of a trade show

I'm really looking forward to this weekend. We're doing the Chanute Air Museum in the morning then E-Fest in the evening.

Anyone have any suggestions of where to have lunch?

Temps will be in the 50's! Great weekend. Bring some bigger planes and throw them around the soccer field.

LOL, I don't know if its legal or not, I've never seen anybody fly there but I have thought about it a time or 2 on my lunch break. There is a large empty field and soccer fields just east of the football stadium. Just a few blocks from the armory. It will probably be a muddy mess.

Default It Was Good

E-Fest was pretty good.

The combat was GREAT - lots of carnage!

I'm really tired after that long day. Left the house at 7 am and got back 2 am.

Next year I'm going to fly!
