Default Anyone sell a rock solid landing gear for a stick?

I built a home made stick much like our beloved SS. The Landing gear seem to be the weakest part of the mix though.

I've seen guys beef up the gear with the typical DIY stuff.

But does anyone make a rock solid set of landing gear for a stick plane?

I did a forum search and came up empty.

Thanks.

Be happy it bends the landing gear instead of the aluminum fuselage. Get an extra front wing mounting bracket, cut off the wing saddle and use it to mount the lg right behind the motor. Resists nose-overs and protects the fuselage. Actually get 2 extra front wing mounts. Replace the rear wing mount with a front. Flys better with the wing "flatter". Tom

Please have a look here at this thread I posted on the Slowy. The SS is used extensively for Aerial Photography and thus needs to support a good deal of weight. I fly a SS that is 32+ oz. AUW . The gear work flawlessy if you mod them correctly. The AP threads present wonderful mod suggestions for birds of this type. I hope I have helped you. Also...If you use a 10mm alum stick for the frame.....epoxy a 3215 aluminum arrow shaft right down the middle for amazing strength at virtually no weight gain...

Nice mods Vam!
I spoke with one guy at the hobby shop...he said he swapped the aluminum stick with an oak dowel (rect.) I bought a couple and they are durable.. and they cost $1.30 at the hardware store

I would like to find some rectangular plastic with 3/8" ID. I could make something from aluminum, but I would like to keep weight down.

I have a home made stick with a blue core wing. I use a hardwood stick instead of the aluminum.

thats exactly what I do with stickboy...my creation...did a thread on it

I went to the hardware store... I was hoping to find some delrin that has the 3/8" ID so I could make some mounting platforms...they didn't have it. I think my LHS has some though...I'll let you know if I come up with something.

I could make something out of aluminum...but I'm trying to keep weight to a minimum

My SS LG is modd'ed stock and is fairly bullet proof. I made a wire cross brace, and attached it with larger wheel collars. I then used strong fishing line running to the motor mount to prevent the LG from folding back on a less than perfect arrival:
