I don't know if there is an already established "standard"..but.....after having to trace the wires back a couple of times, I finally coded all of my leads as follows

RED = Rudder (Red/Rudder..simple to remember)

YELLOW = Elevator (YELL sounds similar to ELevator..simple to remember)

BLUE = Ailerons (Blue reminds me of the AIR or SKY ..somewhat simple to remember)

GREEN = Motor/power lead (Green means GO! )

What do you actually do to achieve these colors? Colored electrical tape? Colored shrink-wrap? Colored Sharpie? A short piece of colored wire wrapped around or tied to the servo wire?

And do you color code the receiver, too?

Put a dab of the same colored paint on the proper receiver slot also.

When I was using Futaba I used to number the plugs.

Now I'm using JR recievers I use letters.

Color coding is a great idea. Thanks for the tip! I've only ever really worried about which aileron lead was which in the past. I'd always tie a knot in the right side lead. I think I like your color code idea much much better!

I bought a set of colored electrical tape at Wal-Mart ( auto stores usually have them, too) I just put a small wrap around the servo lead with the specific color. My eyes are going, so writing small numbers won't work too well for me anymore.

Any system works, as long as you are consistent and you have an easily remember-able system regards, Rich

I coded my aileron plugs and jacks by wrapping it with colored tape; Red = left aileron, Green = right aileron, same as navigation lights. Then I just plug red to red, green to green.
