Wes that's a fine thing you and everyone else has done for the MS Society.

I'm really bummed out that I was stuck in Indiana for the event.

If those T-Shirts are of the 'tall' variety I'd like to buy a gray 3xl shirt.

Mike,
Maybe. You can make it to the spring low key. Fun fly.
And of course there will be DUSTBOWL 3 in September!

On the shirts I would say they are the longer side. Most of my height is in my upper
Body and they fit me well.

Thanks for the kind words about the cause we are doing it for.

Mike,
Let me know if you still want the shirt. And how you would like to get it.

Default a little news

I just received an email from Brandi Davidson from the National MS Society. They were asking for more information about this years fly in.

They are going to have it in their publication! Good for the fly in!
And of course the fly in is good for the MS Society and research into a cure!
I will post more when I have more.

Default Mark your Calanders! Pot luck BBQ and informal fly in date!

Unless a lot of people have a problem with this date we will be having the Pot luck BBQ and informal fly in at the airport May 14th. This is the Saturday after Mother's day.
We will be doing some planning for the MS Fly In that takes place in September.

If anyone wants to come down that Friday and camp there is no problem with that.

Saturday we will have a cook out of what ever food everyone brings. And then shoot the breeze and fly.
There is no raffle or set events. Just good food and good times.
I would encourage as many as can to bring stuff to buy and sell. So we can have a bit of a swap meet too.

Hey Wes -- I was reading this month's issue of AMA's magazine, and I was thinking that the Dust Bowl fly-in might get a bit more exposure if you let the AMA District VIII President know about the event. From what I can tell, he'll attend, take some photos, and write up a little blurb about it in the next AMA magazine...

Free advertising, dude.

I have not been an AMA member for some time. But of course I am all for the AMA. If someone who is a member would contact him and maybe point him to the threads and pictures that would be great.

Wes, I think we may be too late for the 2010 event, but I would be happy to contact him for the 2011 event. Just let me know the date (and location, and all the other details) as soon as possible, so he has time to plan to attend the event.

If I remember correctly, he lives in Texas, so the trip will be an event for him.

I'll go ahead and contact him today to give him a heads up for 2011, and point him to this thread for the 2010 event (just in case he can do something with that information).

I think the only problem would be that the Dust Bowl is not an AMA sanctioned event.

It could be sanctioned, but I think you would limit your number of pilots who came last year by about half. Only a few of us park flyers still have AMA.
On the other hand, you have the potential to pick up a lot of guys that will see it as a major event, and worth the drive if they see it's sanctioned by the AMA.
You will also be able to get R/C venders to come, and being nationaly publicized you should see your donations increase. This type of donation is a 100% write off for corporations, and good for public image. If you build a simple free web page with all the pictures, news coverage, MS link, Wattflyer link, Vendor links, maybe positive quotes, or testimonials from passed sponsers, and flyers, this will give them a place to check it out without sifting thru pages of text. I think you could easily see donations at $5K-$10K.
If done early (sanctiond by March) calling, emailing, and snail mail every R/C company, local business, Oklahoma based businesses, etc. Contacting all of them by June 1st, then a follow up by the end of July. They need time to run it by a committee for approval.
This event could be huge in 2-3 years. Who knows your check to MS could be $50K in five years.
I know I'm a dreamer, but dreamers who are also doers, shape the world. The problem is I'm not that great of a doer.

Default Something a bit sad to report

Larry Lundgren the owner of Rib Town who has been supplying us with great BBQ and other food and also donating generously to the FLY In for MS Research is being treated for Cancer.
He is going in 4 to 5 times per week for Chemo.

I hope we can all keep him in our thoughts and prayers while he deals with this. He is still working too. I don't see how he manages that with the chemo but he is.
Please remember him and his wife Judi.

Ok here is the address:
Rib Town. 412 W Main St, Holdenville, OK 74848

If anyone does send a card I would ask that you mention that you know him and his great food from the Fly In. And of course it would not hurt his feelings I am sure to know that people appreciate what he does for the cause.
