Unhappy DX6i W/FMS and USB

Hi All,
I just purchased a Blade 400 and am trying to configure the DX6i to work with FMS and the USB (JR based) cable from Toms RC. Has anyone else accomplished this and if so, how did you get it to work?

I have successfully installed the USB "C" drivers and FMS seems to function fine however I get no response from the calibration check. With batteries installed and radio powered off, it auto on's when I connect the cable to the buddy port so I am fairly sure the system is recognized.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks
Jeff

I've actually connected my DX6i to a few sims on my Windows laptop. I needed the following software: SmartPropoPlus and PPJoy. The SmartPropoPlus has step by step directions to get both programs installed and running.

I've been able to use my DX6i with FMS, HELI-X and AeroFly Pro Deluxe so far.

[edit]
I used a simple male to male stereo cable that went from the trainer port to the mic port. I didn't use any kind of stereo to USB cable.

I've used my DX6i with a USB converter. I'm not sure what drivers you are referring to, all the USB converters I've seen just show up as a regular joystick - no drivers required.

If you are using the DX6i on the Blade 400 model setting, you may need to change it to another model, and set that model up as ACRO, not heli. I think the mixing thats used on the Blade 400 setup may throw the USB converter off. Although usually you would still see some data in the calibration.

Is your USB adapter like these:

http://www.helidirect.com/product_in...oducts_id=3171

They should all work the same way.

Hmmm, those products look like a mono to mono cable. I'll have to get a mono to mono (instead of the stereo to stereo) and see if that changes the handling at all.

I use stereo to stereo on my Parkzone TX without any problems, using same software mentioned above.

Default DX6i USB Cable

Hi,
i bought a USB-Cable at www.rc-discount.de for my Dx6I and it works without any problems, no drivers needed.
Only thing is to calibrate and setting up in Simulator software like FMS, Aeroflight Deluxe etc.
Greetings
Pequeno

I'm sorry for re-asking - I'm about to purchase the DX6i - are you positive that it would work without an expensive jack to USB cable and just needs a stereo mini jack to connect to the mic and the flight sims (or some driver?) would see the DX6i and work with it correctly? Thanks a lot for your answer in advance!

My DX6i works better if you use a MONO 3.5mm jack and the LINE IN socket rather the MIC skt but it does work into a sound card.

But I haven't used that method of connection for ages....those "expensive" USB interfaces actually only cost about $10 and make life so much simpler.

I'll second Steve. Get the USB cable. No point in adding frustration to your life for a measly couple of bucks.

Default DX6i W/FMS and USB

Thanks, guys. One more question if I may - has anyone tried using a cheap USB transmitter controller for training instead of a real transmitter, like DX6i we were talking about - are those worse for the learning curve on a sim? I'm an RC flying wing guy, wanted to try RC copters, but it seems it doesn't make much fun to just get an inexpensive coaxial and just move it around the room or outside with no wind, I'm an aerobatics guy, but forums seem to say - spend months learning on a sim first and only then get a real 3D heli for like $450+, so I'm thinking if I'm not purchasing a heli now, why getting a more expensive transmitter, which might get cheaper (or better) later, when I'm flying the sim with cheap USB transmitter good enough to get a real thing? I know there're several ways to get to flying the 3D RC helis without too many unnecessary crashes, I'm thinking is cheap USB controller good enough to get me through first half year on a sim, or should I probably get something real and maybe even a real heli, which would be single rotor 45 deg bar, etc and start is slowly as well?
I'll appreciate an insight or even a link to a proper resource, there're so many, it's confusing.
Thanks!
