Default Oklahoma Dust Bowl Flyin 2, September 10,11,12, 2010

The Dust Bowl Flyin, version 2010 is in the planning stages and lots of work in in progress.

Wes is getting lots done, however it is too much for him to keep this thread up to date so I volunteered to move the posts from the RCG thread over to Wattflyer. I will copy and post things of interest. Some of these posts go back a while, so bear with me until I get caught up.

This second Dust Bowl will be bigger and better than last years and any of you that want to help, just contact Wes with whatever you want to do to help. Or you can contact me and I will forward the info to Wes.

This years flyin will also benefit MS, so it is going for a good thing. Wes is having more difficulty accomplishing things, due to his MS, so any help will be appreciated.

Need help!!!!!!!!!
It is time to starting getting things lined up for the September event. I am not in the best of help and really and going to need a lot of help and soon.

I will do what I can but just not able to do as much as last year due to failing health.

I need to meet with whom ever is will to step and help in a big way. I would like to have a meeting around the end of this month at the airport. We can decide for sure what all is going to happen. And who will do what.

I want this to be bigger and better then last year. But with out help it won't happen.

I am going to post this on WF too.

One thing we really need to start is confirmed donations for prizes.
I will check into new shirts here. There is another guy I think will do better on them.

I doubt I will have any planes there of my own. And don't think I will be flying. But want to still make this a bigger better show then last time.

I'll work on some other stuff later. You should still have plenty of the wrist bands left.
And, I DO want another shirt.

If you guys can make it to this coming meeting.... please do! Wes is going to need a lot of help this year. He won't tell you this.... but I will. Wes has been having a lot more trouble with his MS. So, if you can help out, it would be great.

I will have plenty of streamer and will help round the guyz up for combat like I did last year, hopefully we can get in some good rounds. I still have not picked up the cable for my trainer box on the Super Cub but I do have it set up. I will have 3 batteries for it, hopefully that will be enough.

Need suggestions
Ok I talked to another t shirt guy. He can make a lot of things. Including better shirts then last time.

So I need to know what if anything else people would be interested in?
I need to give him a list and then he will give me firm prices.
Shirts will be a bit more then last year. But Will be screen printed not hot pressed.

So what else? Hats? Bumper stickers? Dust Bowl decals? ( I survived the Dust Bowl of 2010?)
Coffee cups?
Give me real suggestions people!

Oh and the BBQ guy is confirmed for eats again this year! YUM!
Also OHP pilot says he will fly in for it and stay a bit.

I talked to the owner of several homebuilt ( full size man carrying) planes yersterday at another airport. he also flies r/c. He said there is a good chance he will be at this years event with his 3/4 scale Jenny.

September 11th.
I don't know if anyone else realized it. But the main flying day is going to be on September 11th.
We need to do a memorial of some sort.
I was just over at the National Guard. They will be there for sure if they are not deployed.
He also gave me contact info for the people who control theirs as well as the Air National Guards aircraft. Since it is early they think we should be able to get a Heli and possibly and F16 for display or at least a Fly over.

Getting ready to call them shortly.
There is a VFW post at the airport. I am going to talk to them about an Honor Guard thing.

What does everyone think about having a minister there for a prayer and a moment of silence at the appropriate time?

The Fly in now has a Facebook page.
For those on facebook you can now be a friend of the Fly In on Facebook.
Do a search for Oklahoma Dustbowl
And you will find the page.
Do a friend request and suggest the page to your friends who might be interested in the fly in!

The VFW uses the building there for meetings. I am going to see if they will do an honor guard on Saturday at the correct moment. And they do pancake breakfasts to raise operating money. So I am sure they would be willing.

More activities
Ok I have made partly worked out with the VFW to have a color guard to the 11th to open the day. Also it looks likely there will be pancake breakfast that morning. This will be open to all who are there.

The airport manager agreed also to start mowing the grass next to where we are flying for about 1 month before the event in preparation for it's use as a runway.
There will also be a dumpster there again.

Has anyone else been talking to people about donating or participating in the fly in?

Fly In Updates.
Ok here is an update on what I have been doing.
I talked to a woman at the Holdenville Chamber of Commerce. She is going to present information about the event at an upcoming meeting of the chamber.

She is also going to print up fliers and have them available at the meeting to the member of the chamber. She is also going to get them posted around town.

She also sent me a list of members to contact.

I talked to a local radio station about doing a brodcast at the fly in. The are going to email me information on their rates. But from what he told me on the phone it is NOT cheap to have them there.

Good news for the fly-in everyone !!!!!!!

The VFW of Holdenville approved on a unanamous vote for them to do a pancake and sausage breakfast for SEPT 11, 2010. they will also have an honor guard which I will try to be part of. They will also do some type of ceremony for the rememberance of 9/11.

Hey guys,
The price for the Pancake Breakfast should be $5.00 includes pancakes, sausage, juice, coffe or water. I will be helping out with the cooking of the breakfast...so I will be busy that day between the VFW and the fly-in.

Listen ...all you Active Duty and Veterans...we will have a place set up also for the VFW for you to join. Bring Military ID and or your DD-214 cost for a years membership is $26.00 per year.

The VFW needs guys our age...Most the men in my post are getting old and there is no one to carry on the traditions and serve Veterans without the VFW's.
In Case you do not know the VFW is instrumental in fighting for our VA Benefits. they fought and got us more travel pay for our Dr. appointments. They have fought and got the GI bill to include spouses and family members to be covered for Veterans who are 100% disabled.
It is a very worthy group....please come out and support the Holdenville VFW post 9827 and the Oklahoma Dust Bowl Fly-In 2010 !!!

cool wes,
we need to plan into the set up where to fly the banners and get a good shot of the fly in sign with it.
we also need to plan out the honor guard, like where we want them parading the colors. My suggestion would be the TARMAC where you and I fly all the time. I will work with the vfw post on the honor guard and have the post commander or minister have a prayer in rememberance of 9/11.

So, that is going to be my major contribution to the fly- in, setting up the vfw post for a nice rememberance ceremony for 5 minutes or less. followed by a moment of silince.
Then announce PLAY BALL !!!! lol But keep in mind I will be working the Pancake breakfast too...going to help cook and serve the fly-in folks...

I am thinking of setting a firm time from 0700-0900..stop for ceremony and then if anyone missed we can serve them after 5 minute ceremony.

I need everyones input on this also : how would you guys and gals feel about the VFW offering hot dogs and burgers for a good price??? so we have BBQ from our local vender and also VFW members serving hot dogs and burgers on the grill with a pop. Keep in mind if we do that...I will be helping cook...and I would love to sell every burger and dog so this fly-in is a great hit for everyone.
As a member of this VFW Post 9827 I would love to see two charities one from fly-in and one from VFW get a good donation and have a nice event in remeberance of 9/11.
This has been my goal from the beggining of the planning Wes and I did last year. He agrees...we want this to be a BIG HIT !!! to bring in more flyers, more audiences, more larger aircraft, more events.

I think it would be a fantastic way to perhaps bring in even more folks and offer lots of great food...Maybe even have the model plane venders here to set up as well.
This is our goal..to make it big..so we can make a Big donation to MS.

so...there ya have it...lol
