Default Simple 64mm set-up for Concept X?

Hi,

since Iīm visiting the US for a few days, I decided to take this opportunity to get my first EDF project cheaply. I bought Nitroplanes Concept X plane:

64mm Concept X Super Performance Ducted Fan RC Jet Airframe Only (Green)

They couldnīt supply the receiver-ready version and since I donīt want the Tx/Rx, I bought the airframe only. I like to ship at HC, and I still have some 1300mAh 3S packs. Please advise what Fan set-up I could use. I prefer to keep the lot very light, and I donīt need to break any speed records with my first EDF. All advice is welcomed!

Cheers,

Hugo

This is what I have just purchased myself for my l-39 jet. I think it should provide good performance on 3 cell.

I have crashed that jet so much that the extra weight of all the epoxy requires a more powerful fan setup. Hence the purchase.

HugoW, 1300maH battery won't get you very far with the 64mm EDF.
Depend on the motor KV, my 64mm on 4.8Kv/v brushless motor sucks 52-54amps on 4000mah 3S 25C batteries.(most of the lower capacity batteries gets bloated with this high KV motor.)
The lowest KV motor at 4KV/v sucks 25amps and the performance is so so only ....so that give you an idea how much current hungry are these EDF jets.

A compromised would be a motor between 4KV/v to 4.8Kv/v that will sucks in somewhere around 30-40amps using a 2200maH 3S batteries would be better choice.

Cheers

Ah, that makes sense. The 1300 packs were in a 400 gram foam wing, this will weigh more. I just thought I read they used these small packs, but I cannot find where. Must have mis read. I have some 2200 packs, too, from my 450 heli. Will give those a try. The set Catalina suggests looks good.

The stock vector does run 1300mah 3s packs, its a mild setup and still flies well. You dont need to pull 50+ amps on a 64mm fan to get decent performance.

A GWS 64mm fan with a 3800Kv long can inrunner will produce 680 grams thrust at 24 amps on 3 cells, and almost 1100 grams thrust at 40 amps on 4 cells.

Here is video from one of our customers running our GWS EDF64 setup on 4 cells in an F18, it hammers along on 2200 4s packs, we have used the exact same setup in the Vector and the stock 4 cell vector setup is close to this in performance.

My Vector runs a custom Extreme 64mm fan unit with machined Wemotec rotor, ARC motor, on 4s2600 40c packs it pulls 70A and pushes 1400g thrust and is doing over 200kmh. This is the most powerful 64mm fan setup I know of.

Thanks, ExtremeRC. Iīm not one for max power, yet, and I always prefer to build very light. Would this make up your advised set-up?

Rip out motor, and fit this:

Is the GWS better then for instance the fan Catalina advises above?

Bummer, despite promisses by e-mail, the order was rejected since they cannot ship in time, to get it to me before I leave the US again and head for home.

Cheers,

Hugo,
Got my order yesterday of the links i provided you with before. Will let you know how the performace is once I get the L-39 back in the air again.
Fan and motor look great. The way the fan locks onto the motor shaft is the best I have seen so far.
