One of those looked to be a precursor of the Hawker Harrier 'Jump Jet'.

Yes true ... the data obtained from it was used in development. Before BAC came about - many UK firms collaborated as it was only way to secure funds and compete on world markets. Especially true after British govt gave away so many innovations to USA in so-called bi-lateral deals. 1959 was really the year it can be seen UK aircraft manufacturing starting decline. By mid 60's the rot was set in and only European collaboration could survive. This became the main stay action. Witness the Tornado and other projects. The bad apple has always been France though in European collaboration. France always insists on taking lead position but fails to pay pro rata ! They inevitably drop out and go their own way ... Rafael is good example.

Anyway ... enough about sour grapes ! Its worth following the series on YouTube . Farnborough highlights are there for 1960 and onward. You can see the changes and decline clearly as you go through each in turn.

Just excuse me as an old die hard Brit ! TSR2 still lives on for me !
