info Problem starting the motor on a Mini ultra stick PNP

I just got a brand new Mini Ultra Stick PNP (E-Flite), but can not get the motor to start. I am using an JR SX 600 radio system. The ailerons, rudder and elevator work fine, but the motor does not work, but when I go to full throttle, the motor barely moves in a vibrating way. When I connect the battery to the ESC, there is no tone. I inverted two lines between the motor and the ESC and when I connected the battery, I can hear two tones, but I get the same results as before (the barely moves in a vibrating way). What might be the problem?

The motor juddering like that instead of starting is usually due to a bad connection in one of the 3 leads between motor and ESC.

Alternatively what battery are you using and are you sure it is fully charged ? Also that you have the ESC plugged into the correct channel on the receiver ? For a JR transmitter it should be in ch 1.

Read the instruction. You may have to have throttle at full, then off for the esc to start the motor.

Thank you Steve. I will check the connections. The battery is charged with 11.4 VDC and the ESC is plugged in ch 1.

Your battery is only about 30%-40% charged at 11.4 volts.

12.6 volts is fully charged for a 3 cell lipo battery.

I agree about the motor start issue - its probably a bad conection between the motor and esc. You should also check to be sure the motor turns freely by hand - nothing jammed inside it.

Be carefull. You can easily burn out the controller if you keep trying to start the motor by going to full power on the transmitter when the motor does not start.

Motors that are not turning will draw huge huge currents.

Thanks everyone. I reconnected the motor and ESC, recharged the battery and tried it again and it finally worked. Probably the votage had to be above 12 VDC for the motor to armed. It was 11.4 VDC before I rechaged the battery.
