Default Are there any alternatives to the stock Mini Ultra Stick landing gear?

I am looking for something a bit sturdier (the axle the wheels spin on have bent on mine), and cheaper. I found these, but they were originally intended for the slow stick, so I am hesitant to buy them.

Are you running nylon bolts to the fuse? I've managed to shear those off (once), but can't imagine landing hard enough to bend an axle

I really haven't had any very hard landings. Lately I have become quite proud of my ability to land this plane smoothly. The problem just developed over time......

You can swap out the supplied bolts with Allen head type bolts.
Allen bolts are much harder than run of the mill bolts.

I am not talking about the bolts, I am talking about the gear.

I misunderstood. I thought you wanted axles that wouldn't bend.
Some gears use bolts for the axles.
If all you want is to change the axles, Du Bro hardened steel axles that bolt on to aluminum gear legs.

If you want to change the whole gear James gave you a good link.
If you want to fabricate a wire gear, I can get you information on that.

Does anyone know anything about the landing gear I referred to in my original post? They look pretty cool in my opinion. I am considering the suggestions you guys have given me. PD1, do you happen to know what size of those axles I would need for the MUS landing gear? Or even for the gear smokejohnson linked to?

The landing gear you linked to is for a stick type fuselage. Without major modding it won't fit. The landing gear on the MUS is pretty tough. Tougher than the plane itself. If it is only the axles that have bent, then pd1 has given you the best way IMO. As far as the size, I would have to measure them tonight when I get home. Maybe someone else knows, and will post it up for you.

edit: The bolts pd1 referred to were to make new axles out of, ......not to bolt on the gear. They mean for you to use a harder bolt not the soft bolts that e-flite used for axles.

I have the gear you posted on, they're on my SSX. Nice gear. You can adjust toe in/out on them, and mine came with both a stick fuselage adapter and one for a flat bottom plane.

I like em, they seem very sturdy and were easy to assemble.

Email James at Millennium, he can more then likely answer any questions you have oth what the gear will or won't do.

The link takes you to the page and the one selected is the 1 1/4 inch long by 1/8 diameter axel.
That is a tough axle, that size should work.

Paul

Thanks Hostile.
