Default Own design F8F Bearcat

Here are some pics of my scratchbuilt Bearcat. It has a 30" wingspan, balsa sheeted blue foam wing. Hot wire cut hollow blue foam fuselage with light ply reinforcements. Covering is yellow econocoat. AUW is 16oz. I used a color laser printer and some clear polypropylene adhesive label material to create all of the panel lines, rivets and insignia. Chrome vinyl adhesive label stock on the LE of all surfaces to add some more scale realism. This is really a semiscale version as the tailgroup was modified with some counterbalance ends to help the micro servos. In retrospect, not needed AT ALL since I have very little throw in the elevator after its first flight today. With such a short tail moment it is amazing how easily over controlled it could be. I will reduce the servo's control horn mounting hole and link up closer to the center of the servo for better response. I flew at 40% Dual rates on the elevator and 80% on the ailerons and had still alot of control.

The power setup is a 9x6 apc on a E-flite park 370 brushless outrunner. 3S 1320mah Thunder Power lipo (13C). From the limited amp reading tool that I have the max amp drawn was less than 10 but I am using an E-Flite 20 amp esc.

Hand launches were done at 1/4 throttle or less. Less than 1/2 throttle for most of the early stages of the first flight. NO TRIM NECESSARY at all once the rates were dialed in. A THING OF BEAUTY.
I flew today in gusty winds of up to 15mph. It got tossed around a good bit but penetrated the wind with no problem. WOT was crazy fast for me and this little ship. It is all relative speed but I would guess on a calm day, 50-60mph on a low pass is not unrealistic. With wind in the mix that makes for some solid stick management.

Anyways, if you wanna know anything about her let me know. I will link the video of the maiden and first couple flights shortly.

That is fantabulous. Was yellow used on the Bearcat? I think I have only seen the blue.....your color scheme is amazing!
