Default ACE Hobby/ Thunder Tiger Simple series

Does anyone have one or know more about the Simple series from Ace.
Like the Me 109 or P51. Does it come covered...are the wings sheeted?
What are the wings made of?

Thanks, Joe

It's a wood and foam kit. You build the fuse from the pre-cut wood parts and the wings are bare foam. Typically you would cover the wings with low temp iron on covering. If you wanted to do this really well sheeting or a coating of fiberglass would be the bomb.

Otherwise they are nice for being very simple kits.

However adding any weight to these is not a good idea as they are already a tad heavy for their wing area.

Thanks Twmaster,
If I were to sheet wings...I'm thinking spray 3m adhesive and sheet bottom. Or maybe run an 1/8 spar through it?
As far as weight...short 400 BL with 1300 3s?
Is there a battery hatch? Are the wings semi or flat bottom? Dihedral?
I love the look of the plane...do you have one?
Sorry for all the questions.
Thank you.

Hey now,
These are very old designs. Most of them come out on the heavy side as it is. Of them the "Simple 400" is the best flyer. The fuses have a lot of plywood in them, sure it makes them strong, but it adds weight.
The airfoils are semi symetrical and make pretty decent sportster wings.
At one point you could buy just the wings and I built a lot of models based on them.

Don't bother to sheet them, it's just weight. You may want to cut in a spar but in general as the instructions say just use a bit of strapping tape and it'll be fine.
I have one set of their wings I put together back in the seventies for their "mach none", now it's a twin motored sportster and even after all those years it's holding up just fine. So, keep the wing stock but lighten the fuse and you should have a fair flyer.

Thanks Elf,
I ordered one(me109) but havnt heard back yet.
I might order a wing frm Mountain models and do what you said. It;s all about having a good wing to build from.
As for the 109...I will go with an ARC from Light Flight with 1300 3s. Should have warmliner speed 75-85mph.
I won't sheet wings but do like a thin spar. I still have my Mountain Models SmoothE...my favorite. Semi semetrical came in 4 peices with a 3 peice spar...then red white and blue packing tape...awesome wing.

I will see what I can do to lighten the fuse...maybe less bulkheads or just paint. When I start the build I will post results.

I like the Simple 400 too...if the 109 works out I will go that route and make it a speed demon. I really like the squared look of the 109, looks quick but you're right about the weight could be a factor.

thanks again ,
joe
