Quick question -- how many acres does Hodges Hobbies have?
Also, looking at the satellite image, I can't see where the runway is -- is it grass or pavement?
I ask these questions, because I'm planning a trip to Hodges Hobbies soon.
It'll take me 2 days to drive there, but then I can say I did it.

I've heard say that if you stand in the middle of it a make a 360 everything you see belongs to Mac.

I love the windsock! And while I really appreciate the video, how can you fly behind the flight line at a field that requires AMA membership? (I'm not pointing fingers -- I've been guilty of it too...)
Also -- what are the three buildings? One looks like a barn, one looks like a house, and one looks like a flightline "shade" building. Am I right?
#62

The three buildings are 1. The Hobby Shop (looks like a house) 2. the pavilion next to it with setup tables, frequency board, etc. and 3. the one in back is where the vendor mall is during SEFF and at the one end of it is Mac's Hangar where he keeps the B-29 and stuff.
acres??? A LOT! 1800 ft from one end to the other is big enough to land full scales on.

I'm guessing based on dimensions from a Google Maps satellite view but... As setup for SEFF the runway is about 10 acres divided up into about 5 flight areas with pilot stations at each flight area. Canopy and camping areas comprise perhaps 40 or 50 acres. The flying area between the runway and the trees is about 30 to 50 acres and you can fly over the trees and fields surrounding the areas I've just mentioned. It's a beautiful place with lots of open sky.

Wooooo. not quite
The if we are jsut talking the usable area... the grass, not the crops, or the shop area.. it is roughly 1800 ft long and 300 ft wide. That is 540,000 sq ft. converting that is that is a little less than 12.5 acres.
Mac owns A LOT of land and rents it out to locals to farm on. More than what Hodges is.. but what we actually fly on is 12.5 acres. Now if want we utilize for seff.. vendor area, campers parked, parking area., flying area.. blah blah blah it is roughly 500X 1800 ft.. that comes to 900,000sqft = 20.6 acres.
not really 100acres.. however if you include the crop area that he owns that we fly over.. well that is a totally different story...

Well, I can officially say I'm a Hodge Hound now!
I was the guy flying his Stryker in the wind and RAIN on May 29 at about 6PM...
It's a REALLY nice field, but it's a full day's drive from home -- maybe I'll make it to SEFF next year.

LOL -- uhhhh... Okay... :o
What does it take?
I mean, REALLY -- I drove over 2,500 miles to fly my Stryker at Hodges Hobbies. When I got there, it was windy and RAINING -- but I flew anyway.
Go ahead and raise the bar if you must -- I'll meet it...
