I have a T'craft on floats. Here's the thread:

http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/fb.asp?m=7541620

This will get you into the middle of the thread, which I started scroll up to the beginning and you'll see pics and my setup info. Feel free to PM or Email me if you want.

The model flies beautifully, wheels or floats. I also have a Beaver on floats. The T'craft ROGs better, IMHO.

Thanks,

There are a couple of Eflite Beaver threads. Look 'em up. No need for me to add more.

Thanks Charley for you opinion on the T-Craft and for the link.

I was at my LHS last night. He has the T-Craft on back order for at least 5 more weeks but had a Beaver there reserved for another customer. I got to open the box: what a nice plane and I think I can open the front over the battery compartment to fit my huge 5s A123 batteries...I ordered it last night at my LHS just before closing but I am having second thoughts...
I will call my LHS back this morning as soon as they open and cancel the Beaver and get in line for a T-Craft. From the comments about them here and on RCU, it realy looks like I shoud start with the T-Craft and then later on in the fall or next year move to the Beaver. This is the wise thing to do...
One of the big advantage of the T-Craft for me is that my T-28 Trojan, although still flying, is quite tired (too many hard landings and small crashes). I would leave the servos in the T-28 and use the E-Flite 25A ESC, Park480 910Kv motor and AR7000 receiver from the T-28 and install them in the T-Craft. This will cut the cost of this project in half and would be easy to swap back and forth between the 2 planes if needed. I also have 6 lipos for it :p.
I have exchanged e-mails with Mark from seaplanesupply and he seems like a great guy with the right floats for the T-Craft (the 24" or 26" Flat bottom ones)

smart man!!...dont get me wrong about the beaver nice plane just a hand full to get set up ...and with a couple of changes on eflites part should be a nice scale flyer..after seeing the nice job charley did setting it up for floats..think i might have to add one to the old hanger.....keep me posted on the floats there is also floats made for a little plane they call Wilga 2000 it has 24 inch floats..not sure if they would work but might on the t craft

I too think thats a good idea.Especially, as you indicate, the Trojan's taking a lickin still.
As far as swapping servos. For my Late Taylorcraft, I used hs65's Karbonite for rudder and elevator.HS 55 for ailerons. Ill use 65's all around on round 2.May be overkill, but oh well. The T-craft w/a 480 is a screamer.I was amazed at the acrobatics it could do and its a beauty to look at.
Good Luck Man!

Default Beaver Floats?

Gang,

This may be heresy but if I had it to do over I'd use foam or built-up balsa/ply floats instead of the fiberglass ones from E-flite. Those suckers are heavy! And so is the supplied hardware.

Smile DHC-2 Beaver

GREAT PLANE!

I have the beaver with over 100 Water flights on it. The plane will fly and I have flown it with many motor and battery combo's. My first flights were with the 32 and 42004s combo, more then enought power. Will do vertical till your tired. 42003s will do all standard moves no prob.Have flown with 25 and 3s. Fls like slow flyer just be careful and don't stall, needs long run to get off water. 42004s will fly OK. I like a lot better then my J-3. Landings no probs. Good luck great plane.

Default still flyin beavers

yep. Unfortunately not as much as I want. The only place big enough to fly the seaplane is 25 miles away. When I first started flying it, I thought nothing of making the drive. Now w/gas the way it is, Ive only been to fly Beav 2 once. How are your reincarnations doing? Still making me look bad w/your cool float mods. Send pics if you have. Good hearin from you.

I maidened mine several weeks ago. I really like the plane even with the adverse yaw. Makes a real pilot out of you as you have to use the rudder to properly make turns.

Default Beaver Flying

Yep. With lake 300 feet outside of back door. Probably fly the Beaver 6-8 times a week. Up to 192 flights on it now. It's still in one piece to.

Chuck

P.S. It's gotten wet a couple of times tho.

Default nice pics

Nice shots Nas. As I sit here looking at them, I'm wondering what kinda lame excuse I can find to ditch work today and go fly.
Alas, I've used them all.
5.50 a gallon? I dont feel so bad. Its dropped to about 3.75 in Atlanta.

Take care

Just a note my beaver had its last flight today...lost all power from bad battery connection i guess , lost all control sailed in from about 200 ' not nice...and the price eflite wants for a new one (249 dollars last i looked you would have to be a nut to pay that), the beaver is just a memory now...and i think eflite is to...

I am sooo sorry for ya NW.I had the very same thing happen, only at 20ft, so wasnt too bad. What a helpless feeling. Oh man.
Likely your floats exploded too right?
99.99 bucks now to replace those. Im with ya on that price of a new one.
Eflite can keep it. They've turned me away on their increases.
They want 169.00 for a taylorcraft!!!??? Maybe when gas goes back to
2.50 a gallon, but for now, this poor boy is lookin out of necessity, elsewhere.
Take care NW. Youre a great modeler man.

Keep in touch.!!
