Default Help with Extreme Flight Yak 54e

Just a few questions.

I know the manufacturer calls for a Torque 820 but i will probably be using a Torque 900. From what i know, this should be ok. I may also use a Turnigy setup if my deal on the 900 falls through. Anyone tried this? What motor?

Any tips on keeping it light?

What c rating batteries would be best? Also, what mah would I need to get 10 mins of sport flying out of it? I'll be using a thunderbird 54.

Thanks and sorry for so many questions! I'm a noob to this type of plane.

Hey bro. Did you decide what you were wanting to do? Did you go with the 900 or turnigy?

I dont know if this helps much but Simibill had one up for sale not long ago.

C rating of the battery will depend on the power system requirements and the MAH of the lipo you are trying to use.

If the system needs 20 amps, you need either a 2200mah lipo at 10c (meaning it will provide 22amps constant) (good to have a little give) or a 1100mah lipo at 20c.

cant help on time estimate. You can try flying for 5 min then check the individual cell voltage if it is still in range then recharge the pack and fly for 7min and check voltage.. sorry, I dont know an easier way??

Flew mine with the recommended 820 on 3s and 4s. The 13 x 6.5 prop seemed to work well given the bucket of a cowl. 14 x 7 was a nice size on 3s but a little lacking in vertical. 4s seemed perfect=I used the 13 x 6.5 and watched my throttle-didn't really need WOT. Not the recommended prop size on 4s but it worked and didn't get the motor hot. A 12 x 6 is kind of a small prop for the larger nosed Yaks as recommeded for the 900. Not much prop hanging over the diameter of the cowl. It should fly but I'd be a little leary of it unless you keep your speed up. My .02.
