Default PBY Conversion to electric

Now that winter is here I'm back at work on this conversion.
The previous owner had two .40 size glow engines and said it was too fast, and was going to give it away. I offered to take it as an electric conversion project.

Progress has been fun, with lot's of research as to what motors to use.
Settled on two .35 size, Turnigy 42-40A, 1050KV and two Hextronik 80A ESC's, each powered by an HXT 4s 2100mah lipo.

Finally have both motors installed and wired. Each motor has its own ESC and are "Y" connected to the receiver throttle channel. Each motor has its own battery. The BEC has been disconnected and the receiver is powered by a seperate battery.

I checked one motor with the Wattmeter and discovered that with the Master Screw 9x7 3 blade prop, and a 4s2100mah fully charged, it drew 25 amps and produced 325 watts at full throttle.

Proposed weight right now around 7 pounds.
Here's the E-calc specs using a TP2100 4s li-po since I don;t have the HXT battery data. My Wattmeter test indicated 325 watts at 25 amps with a freshly charged battery. I've never done a conversion & this has been.
Thanks for asking,
Don

A Turnigy 3542 1250 with a 7" prop on 4 cells flys my 3lb. parkjet almost verticle. So those motors should really power that thing.

That should be plenty of power for a 7 pound scale model. That works out to 92 watts per pound.

You wont be doing any 3D but thats ok

Nice PBY Donjiskra. Maybe if you get it flying it will motivate me. I converted a Guillows PBY some years back with DD brushed 400 motors and small 3 blade props. I'm a bit leery about the power system, and have thought about a bl conversion, but should at least give it a try as is.

I wish they had reasonably priced decent bl stuff like the Turnigy gear you're using, back when I setup mine.

Bill,
Thanks!
I too started with DD brushed motors, but now it's a lot different.
Cheap BL motors up the wazoo and lipo batteries are much lighter.
I bet you wouldn't have any problem nowadays making your PBY airworthy.
Good luck,
Don
