Precision Aerobatics Ultimate AMR - motor recomendations
#1

I've just ordered a Precision Aerobatics Ultimate AMR. I'm now looking for a motor to power it. PA recommend their own Thrust 40 motor but I'm not sure if i can get one in the UK
The motor spec is: 500W, 850kv, 140g (full spec here: http://www.precisionaerobatics.com/p...ls.php?pid=418 ) . I want something that will swing the 14x7 prop that the Ultimate is designed for....
Do you have any recommendations of motors that will do the job?
Thanks
Steve

The PA planes are so well built and fly so well, I'd go Hacker or Hyperion.
Here are a couple that are real close to the spec.
The hacker is 5 gm or so heavier and 50kV less at 800. You might want to prop up a hair to get full power but the hacker can easily handle being over propped.

Hacker also has a 900 kV version but its heavier. Does that model tend to need extra nose weight to balance?
The Hyperion GS3014-16 also looks good. Its a hair lighter than the PA motor and the kV is closer at 857.

Im sure there is a Scorpion motor thats also close, but I dont like the Scorpions because of needing to lube the bearings. I think thats a ridiculous and needless pain with the quality bearings available these days.
For got the links
Oops - dont forget Axi. They tend to be a bit more $$ but quality is top knotch.

I would also doubt the claimed kV and all the other specs as well.

The frame'in & diz, work on them's a work of art

ain't broke her,(yet)
no way I'll catch her out of a hover like I do my other balsa plane's, I have a 62 dollar flight pack from HK on her and a 12 year old FM 6 ch, TX ,,3/D her on the deck everyday,, you don't have to bust the bank to fly these,, I think Their recommended Outie cost more than my whole flight-pack!

, Have FUN!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the recommendations guys.. some very nice motors.
Talking of cheap skate options... This one seems to have the correct specs, at least on paper:

Decided to take your advice and go with the Hacker A30-14L. It looks like a good match for the Ultimate and will easily spin a 14x7 prop. Ran it through Motocalc and nearly 2:1 thrust/weight ratio so that should be more than enough to get me going

It also looks good value compared to precision Aerobatics' own 'Thrust 40' motor.. At UK retail price the Thrust 40 motor is 50% more expensive than the Hacker, which good though the Thrust motors are, I just cant justify.
The Ultimate kits arrived in the UK last week and are hitting the dealers as I type, so i should have it next week....
Assembly thread to follow (cant call it 'build' because there is no building in it)
