I have read that people have noticed a lot of "flex" in the tail and have tried to stiffen it. Did you notice the same problem?

Happy flying may your crashes be limited and if they are not limited let them be cool.

Nothing more than you would expect for a REALLY big foamie.

It is nothing that will affect flight characteristics. It is Glider after all. Now if it were a 150mph Hotliner I would be concerned.

You got me thinking Bill.
I just got home from a session with my Radian fitted with RTH and stability etc and I have it all working perfectly now. I turned my TX off a couple of times when the glider was quite some distance away and it just automatically turned for home and eventually it was circling away above me and I thought to myself, Now what could be better than this? And then I thought, I Know. A Radian XL with RTH. Damn. That will take me a while to save for that.

I am an ALES competition pilot. While I don't expect the Radian XL to be a top performer I am always interested in what it would take to get it to climb to 200 meters in 30 seconds or less.

Can this be done with a prop change alone?

Has anyone timed the climb or tried it with an ALES cut-off device?

I have read that it can't do it stock. But neither could the original Radian. On that one all we had to do was change the prop and it hit 200 meters in 28 seconds or less.

So, anyone experimenting with the XL?

Picked it up at the hobby shop this evening. Took my time going through the manual making sure I didn't miss anything. Pretty simple and quick to assemble. I got the PNP version and have a Spektrum receiver with satellite in it but haven't powered it up yet. Battery is on the way. Maybe by the weekend...

I've had it in the air once, late in the day when there was basically no lift, just to get a little used to flying it and to get it trimmed. Unfortunately it was a little squirrely and when I inspected it closely after landing realized the fuselage has a twist in it so that the tail isn't properly aligned with the plane of the main wing.

I plan to call Horizon and see what they suggest. I saw the bulletins but mine has the sticker on the box indicated that they've already taken care of those. If they hadn't already glued the fuselage to the carbon tube it would be easy to get right. It's obviously glued to the carbon tube however since it resisted all reasonable attempts to twist it to correct alignment.

It's not terrible, but I'd like to figure out how to straighten it. Just moments ago I sent an email, with photos to Horizon support. We'll see what they say.

We have several Radian XLs at our field. The pilots seem to like them, but DON'T dive them. At high speeds they wings flutter. We have had two crashes were the dove the plane and the wings separated as a result of flutter.

Pop the spoilers and bring it down easy. Or put the stick in the lower left or right corner and spiral down without picking up a lot of speed.
