Default GWS P 40 Throttle Issues.. Whats going on? Any advice?

As some of you may know, I've had some issues with landing my gws p40 this past fall without cracking it up on "final" just before touchdown.

The majority of you advised me to give a "touch" of power just before touchdown.

Here's where the problem lies. I am using zippy 2c 3 cell 2100 11.1 volt lipo pack, gws 6 channel receiver, towerpro 30 amp esc, a towerpro 2409-12 outrunner, and a 6 channel futaba conquest transmitter I bough new in 1994.

THis is whats going to not allow me to give the throttle just a "touch" you all recommend. The motor will "kill" when the throttle stick is all the way down, however I dont get any power until the stick is at 1/2 THROTTLE and at that point its spinning faster than idle (which is what I don't want). THe end result, I OVER SHOOT the runway and crash..

Whats the problem, crappy ESC, crappy batteries, or outdated transmitter, or WHAT???

Well i have you focused now, next question.

When Im as 1/2 throttle and GRADUALLY give it FULL throttle the engine responds nicely.. IF I RAPIDLY increase throttle to full then the motor CUTS OUT!!! Whats with this 2nd problem Im having???

It sounds like perhaps your ESC is programmed for soft start.

This is one of those knock-off esc's thru hobby king and is not programmable.

I'd see if you can borrow an ESC to test with. I'm using Hobby City low budget stuff(Turnigy ESC and Rhino lipo, KDA motor) and can get a good idle and smooth transition with My DX6i.

Maybe even try plugging your RX unit into another plane with a known good idle and make sure your radio's throttle is working right.

If it is a TowerPro as you said in the OP then it is likely programmable. I own a few TP ESC's of various capacity and every one has been programmable. Not many options but programmable to some degree.
