Default Mountain Models - recommendations???

To all,

Anyone put together one of Mountain Models kits? Are they well built, with good instructions, and solid fit and finish?

http://www.mountainmodels.com/index.php?cPath=25_29_76

I used to build balsa planes, some 35 years back, and just finished putting together this Fokker ARF pre-built, covered plane... http://www.electrifly.com/largeelectrics/gpma1141.html

I am looking for a relatively simple kit that me and my 8 year old son can put together over the summer break.

Thanks,

Forge

Forge,

You bet. MM/LA is one of the finest kit builders in the business.

Forge ,

I'll second the MM / LA kits . The Cessna 180 ( Dave Blum design ) is my favorite flying plane . Goes together in about a day ( I built mine with my youngest daughter ) Over 100 flights and still going .

Control is R/E/T , AUW 9.2 oz powered with Feiaggo 12mm brushless in an GWS "A" gearbox , T-bird 9 ESC & thunder power 730 2s lipo . Can fly it in a baseball infield on a calm day .

Gentlemen,

Thanks very much for the input, all I have to do is decide which one. With some input from my son of course

I will be back for tips on covering and if we run into any problems. I really appreciate the quick replies.

When we start our construction, we'll post a build-it thread.

Good flying.

If you'd like to try mild aerobatics the MM Switchback Sport is easy to build and fly, has some dihedral for stability. When you get good, you can build and install the "3D" fully symmetrical wing and do more inverted and wilder aerobatics. I have flown one of these for some 5 years, it's battle worn but still fun.

BTW I fly mine with a Hobby Lobby Esskay 400XT outrunner motor and Thunder Power 1320ma 3S ( 3 cell, 11.1volt) lipo and a GWS 9x5 direct drive prop. It uses 3 Hitec HS-55 servos for rudder, elevator and aileron control.

Hey E-challenged,

Thanks for the recommendation. I've already purchased MModel's EVA with the sport wing.

My son and I have been putting it together slowly over the past week. Great kit.

I will be posting up a build posting over the weekend, to show our progress.

Happy 4th!

Default Mountain Models, Bruce Thape and Stevens Aero

Mountain Models, Bruce Tharpe Engineering and Stevens Aero are the absolute best kits. Everything is lasercut, the instructions are super, and the best is you can call or e-mail the people that own the companies. Try that with something made in China or wherever
