Exclamation Got One!

I got one of these for Christmas...

This thing is NICE. Way better than my Mini Funtana. What a class act from Fliton. The covering job is impeccable, the light contruction is amazing, and the control surfaces are HUGE. This thing is so light it blows me away, will easily be well under 20 oz's.

Planning to rig one of two setups:

A) AXI 2212/20, CC Phoenix 25, 3S 1500 mAH 12C lipo, APC 10x3.8 SF.

B) AXI 2808/24, CC Phoenix 35, 3S 2100 mAH 12C Lipo, APC 10x5E.

A would go light, B would be for Power. Depends on AUW. If I can get down to 17 oz range, A will be the rig.

Exclamation This plane ROCKS!

Okay, so I finally got the maiden in on this, THE most beautiful mini out there. The good news, it flies better than it looks! Man, I am ordering a Fliton Extra 300. Retiring the Mini Funtana so I have gear to put in it.

I went for the light build, but unfortunatly my bird was out-of-the-box 2.2 oz's heavier than published. I managed to keep it slightly under 20 oz's, no too bad.

Flies like a BIG plane. Stable, well behaved, lands like a butteryfly with sore feet. On rails in the air, beautiful pattern flier for sure. Still working on trying some 3D. Phoenix 25 amp ESC is cutting out well below rating, will try to program a lower cutoff, something fishy though. Even with a fresh new Dymond 3S 1500 mAH 15C (22.5 amps cont.) and propped for 18 amps, it surges and power drops off rapidly at WOT. Did that with an 1800 12C and the 1500 12C too. It's not a battery problem. I'm sure I set LVC to 9V... will reporgram and test more when I have some free time (rare).

So, with the ESC misbehaving, I was prohibited from hucking it. Tried some harriers up high, seems pretty solid. Hover was good for about 3 seconds, then the power falls off and it rolls out. Rolling circles (my lame version) were smooth, and very easy to keep up with. KE had a bit of coupling with both aileron and elevator, but a little speed helps make it lock in. Loops are round and smooth, no tipstall tendencies at all.

Gang... this is a Must-Have mini.

I have looked EVREYWHERE trying to find Vids. Doesn't appear anyone has put any up. The FlitonUSA Site says they have vids, but they're not yet on these two models. Guess I'll have to make one... but it won't be very pretty .

Not a video, but here are some pictures of Andrew Jesky demo flying a Mini 330 at the AMA show in Ontario Calif. a couple of weeks ago.

Those C Ratings on Lipo cells are usually BURST ratings (10sec out of 60) . The Max Continuous Duty is about 60-70% of that. The one discharge graph I've seen of a Dymond cell showed overheating at 8C continuous. They are probably a good 8C cell.

AXI 2808/24 or Hacker A30-28S, running ~27 amps, pushing 300 watts... almost too much. (is there such a thing?)

Yea, I'm sure that is the older 10C battery, saw that before. The 12C's I have (9-10 of them, various sizes) are VERY good. I run them all at or above capacity, all the time, no ill effects so far. Some of these get cycled 2-3 times almost EVERY DAY by my son, he's a flying nut. I have seen a number of evaluations on these batteries, they always seem to under-rate them. I'm fairly convinced the guys posting battery tests have motives to put up negative press on a good, low-cost lipos, to favor thier own interest in some other brand. I just don't believe what they say, when I have first-hand experience.

BTW. Re-programmed my Phoenix ESC for 9V LVC, surging and power loss went away, all is well (and very strong). Was not a battery issue... sure puzzled though, it's like they were in some odd la-la land obscure setting that I can't program. I had two doing this... all better now.

It will fly it, but not 3D real well. Only a 10 amp cont. rating, 13 amp burst. WOT would only make about 145 watts. You could prop up for more, and get up into the 160 watt range, but running seriously overloaded and requires careful throttle management. Save the full stick for "special" moments. Try it, upgrade later .

I went to this link and watched the vid at fliton.com and noticed at the end when they list the gear they used that the axi 2212/20 is used with an 11x5 prop but when I looked at the manufacturer specs it is built for a 9x5 prop. would this damage the motor or shorten the lifespan of the motor? If you were to run this setup would you need to alter the other gear, esc , lipo mah etc...I am just getting in to 3d and would appreciate any feedback you have. thanks.

Default good setup for edge mini

Hi I've got one of these on the way and I would like some suggestions for a motor, esc, and battery.

Some input please!

There are a couple of threads but they're a couple of years old and I assume the electricals have changed since then.
