Default Battery and Charger for Storm Launcher

My girlfriend ordered a SL off last night. They said it was in stock along with the battery. I told her i would pay for the battery, so she only ordered the SL.
I go to order the battery/charger, and it says "in stock" until i try adding it to my cart, and its out of stock, as is every one else.
So now i'm looking for a battery and charger. I am broke, so thats why i wanted to get the air hogs battery, but i dont want to get the SL and not have a battery, so will this charger
and this battery, be okay?
Also, do i NEED a balancer right away? Or can i get away with out one for a short bit?

Welcome to WattFlyer!! - just noticed its your second post...

Short answer - Yes, those above will both work. The charger and that pack with a little velcro to hold it will work just fine. Also, yes you can get away with no balancer for a while. Remember that balancers are relatively new. You shouldnt really fly till the pack is totally drained, and from what I have read that is one of the biggest reasons packs get out of balance. Just run the SL until you notice it starting to lose its power and then stop early before the SL's esc tells you to stop.

Even better answer - the stock SL batteries and chargers have been having issues. There is a HUGE thread on RCG you may want to look at in the the Foamies (kits) forum. A lot of people are returning the packs and or chargers.

Not so good answer - can you work with electronics? You will have to take the bottom of your SL apart (its simple with pics in above thread) and cut the wires off the stock prongs for the SL lipo. You will then need to solder on an appropriate connector (I would ditch that JST on the battery and use a Deans Ultra) on the wires you just snipped off. You will also need a Deans on the charger. I know its easier to leave the JST on the pack and charger and solder a JST to the SL, but they JST's arent really rated that well for SL's current draw. It would probably work, but you could overheat the connector.

Thanks so much. Soldering on the new clips wont be a problem. I'll go ahead and order that charger and battery.
Thanks again!

*Just ordered from that site. There was a $5 discount for the first order i guess. And they take paypal which was a plus!
Damn i cant wait to get everything.

**Should i get an ammo case to charge the battery in?
