Hi Everyone I went to Michaels Art & Craft store this Evening, and this Sheet of 20x30 foam board called out to me, and said, Make me fly
What Could I do, I was Powerless Ok, I said to the Foam Board, There is something wrong with me :p Well, Here is how I am going to make that foam board fly
I have a picture of some delta combat wing planes, I think I borrowed them from RCG
did some measuring, and started cutting, here are the results of that cutting on foam board, Enjoy. Chellie

That will be cool Bruce, This will be my first delta wing, so its a learning process for me, if anyone knows where the CG should be at, please let know, I will add a long strip of velcro, to slide the battery back or forward to get the right CG, The wing is 20" wide, Take care, Chellie

Hi Everyone Making the bottom skid, from foam, with foam board, you have to sand the paper with rough sand paper to take off the shine on the paper, so when you soak it, in the bath tub like i do, the water will get into the paper quicker, and it will peel off, the paper adds a lot of weight, so its better to remove it, the foam is soaking right now, so its time for a glass of wine ok lets make it a tall glass of wine Chellie

Hi Everyone I got a little more done, It will be a ARF before I go to bed tonight or this morning, here is what was done so far, I taped the elevators on to the body, I used a New Tape from Scotch, NOTE FOUND OUT IT DOES NOT WORK VERY WELL IN WARM WEATHER, it got to 88 degrees here and it was too spongy, OH Well, I TRIED IT, I tape the body to elevator with a 1/4" gap, then press the tape together at the middle/seam, that makes for a nice tight hinge, thats very flexable, I also I cut a 6" lenght of 3/8" X 3/8" bass wood to the front body for the motor mount, I left it sticking out about 1" so I can slide a stick motor mount to it, and I added a piece of carbon rod to the rear of the rudder to give it some strength, I need to cut the rod to length after the Epoxy dries, in 5 mins here are a few more pics, Take care, Chellie

Hi Jay I Challanged myself to build a delta wing, in one evening, well I burnt a little midnight oil doing it, but I did it it was fun, I wanted to take it out today with my DR1 Maiden, but its a little windy here today, about 10 mph winds, I dont want to try to fly a multi wing plane in the wind, and being a maiden, no way, take care and dont work to hard, Chellie

Love yer delta! Simple and quick has a lot going for it!

I finally got to see the FLYBOYS movie, about the Lafayette Escadrille - so that DR1 sounds interesting- but my heart belongs to a Neuport 17, since it was the first flying model (Guillows rubber power) I ever successfully built and flew- at 11 yrs old- so it left an impression!

Wishing you calm air and a frisky delta!

Default Well Done :)

Looks great Chelle, That's the same way I made the first one but I never got to fly it because it was built for Susan. I was unsure of CG also so did the same long Velcro thing that way a lighter 2 cell can go forward and 3 cell back a bit.

From the short video I saw of Susan's in action it looked super stable with fair roll rates and good glide. Its the kinda plane you can kick back in a chair with and have all kinds of fun in close. The first photo is what she wanted a copy of but I made it larger and more stable like yours, Roll rate is VERY fast.
The next 2 photos are from Susan and part of her growing fleet of planes. Perhaps she has a photo of just where she puts the battery on hers. Heres a short video of what they look like in action.

Hi Everyone , I threw all the electronics on top of the Delta to see how much the AUW is, and I surprised myself, only 11oz, it has 400sq inches of wing area, so it should be a kite very lite wing load, should be interesting to fly, I do not think I have anything with that lite of a wing load, I almost forgot how to calculate the area of a triangle, dont tell Mr Clean that hey I have been out of school/college since 74, and had a GPA of 3.89 ,oh oh ,showing my age now here are a few more pics, Chellie

WOW !!!!! What a sweet flying delta Wing, it only needed a couple clicks of up trim and a couple of clicks of left trim, it does, I would say about 50 mph +, loops no problem, as this was the maiden flight I did not do any rolls, just kind of got use to it, It needs a little power to land, as it will stop in the air with no power, then cut power and a little up, and it just settles down, It only needs 3/8 " up and 3/8" down movement on the elevons, no rudder used, and I flew it for about 10 mins, still had power, but did not want to chance a dead stick Had a glass of wine to calm my nerves after the maiden Ok Ok just an excuse to have a glass of wine the CG is 7" some people are having good luck with the CG at up to 9 , from the nose of the plane not the motor, i added some carbon fiber tube on the leading edge of the wing for added strength, The way I fly, I need all the help I can Get I am looking into getting a digital, audio, video camera, Kosh & his friends gave me some great info on a camera with a 12X zoom, its a Cannon Powershot S3IS, so videos will be coming soon, here are some pics of the delta, I added some color to it so I can see it a little better, On the second flight, I moved the lipo a little further forward, that took care of the need to have power to land and glide problem, Just a minor CG adjustment, the CG is now at 7" and i am moving it back untill I find a sweet spot, I got it close the first time out Enjoy, Chellie

Glad it flew well for ya, Rolls should be very mild and controllable so you wont have any problems there next time out. It should slow down very nicely and still fly easy and with the motor in front you can hang it on the prop for a limited time. After a few more flights you can get pretty wild with the control throws for some more roll rate. This should also work well as a mid motor setup if wanted. I think Susan is working on one now.

I'm sure you will have lots of fun future flights with it and welcome to the world of Delta's.

Thank you Kosh, It was a very interesting flight, I was a little ready for it, as I fly those Hydro Foams, this delta is much nicer to fly than those hydrofoams but both have there own merits, Take care, Chellie
