Arrow New Video! Just Another Delta? Or...Six? :)

The Deltas started – as far as my interest goes – with Kosh making and flying several different ones. I loved how they flew, but after trying one of his last fall, I knew they were beyond my skill at that point. I could crash his really well, but that was about it!

I hadn’t been over to the west side of the state for a while, so Kosh and David1234 built a Delta for me. It took me until mid January to get back over there for a day so we could finish it off with my Purple Peril motor, CC speed controller, servos, etc. I thought it was pretty nice that Kosh, David, and another friend, Bill, were all working on my Delta. That’s the way it should be.

I got back home, and went to the field to test fly the Delta. A couple of the guys at the field just had to try it too. It was such a blast to fly that they all wanted one too. So five of us got together one night and built five more! That’s the picture with the five white and my original Delta that I painted blue. We all have the same BP-21 motors and TowerPro 18 amp esc, along with 2 and 3 cell lipos.

You can see all the different variations in color and style; mine is the unfinished teal/yellow one. (I’ve had the flu for the past week ) The fifth has flown, but hasn’t gotten painted yet. We plan to put streamers on them and have combat… Ok, I tried it once, but I have to learn to fly mine a little better, because so far I have enough trouble just staying airborne! J

Enjoy the pics and the video of the first flight of Bill C.’s Delta, edited by Kosh! (Just less than 9 mb video)

Airhead and Spitace, the builds are fun, but the flying is the best part! They are a blast to fly. Kosh, Bill did do some loops and rolls, just not while I was filming.

Its Wednesday afternoon, a couple of the guys called, its so nice they took the afternoon off and are going to fly. I have to work. bah humbug! I get off at 5...maybe I can hustle to the field and get one or two flights in after work...hmmm....

Hey Chellie, Hi Kosh. Nope, I didn't get to fly Wednesday after work -- it was way too windy. But, the guys didn't get to either; by the time they got to the field, it was already too windy. They said I put a curse on them because I couldn't go fly too.....

Well, anything is possible...

Default Dx-10

Heres a little more extreme version I'm working on now. Designed to fly at higher speed and smaller in size it should come in under 10 ounces.
BP21, 7x6 APC should work nice with a 3 cell and this bird will also have a rudder.

Hey Kosh,
Thats a nice lookin' Delta... Is that made from the foam board that comes from craft stores or is it something that comes from a hobby shop?
We won't be able to wait for the video!!

Its from a hobby store, A Dupron 6mm sheet. The foam board would be fine also as theres no bends or curves in this design. Sometimes my mind goes a little nutz and wants to try these odd shapes just for the heck of it.

Kosh,
Your planes always look good and they are functional. They certainly fly well from the videos that I have seen... Very aerobatic yet plenty stable.

Well you haven't seen the ones that I had to RUN from thankfully. Not all turn out well or are balanced correctly on there first flights. If they survive the first try I can make it fly most times after that by moving the CG a little.

I'm sure there's some trial and error involved. For those of us who scoop up others' working plans and build 'em and fly 'em -- Thanks! Gives us newer folks some immediate success to go off and try our own stuff out.

Thanks, Yes all my planes are built TLAR from a very rough idea in my head.

Most delta's work very well unless you go below a 60 degree sweep. (Thats were the running comes into play) :o

Only 1 of the planes I have made so far has been a total failure and a few others has CG problems (More running) but were worked out in short order.

Will try for some video next time in Renton.

Very cool looking Delta once again, Kosh. I'm glad I get the sneak preview on these. Order some decent weather over there and I will come and do some video of it for you! Of course, you have to let me try to fly it too....

Sure you can fly it, I checked with the weatherdog and he was pretty white. Buzzing him with the Aero Ace Biplane didnt help our chance at better weather also this time. Only a short time till daylight savings kicks in for more flight time anyways.

Lets see if it even flies well before we break the sound barrier with it.

LOL, well that's no fun, with enough power anything will "fly", it's just a question of whether it will be controllable or not :p.

I'll video it for ya if you don't mind me shooting the vid from inside my car (just kidding btw).

I have been collecting some of Susan's videos and created a new one from a few of them. This gives you a VERY good idea how they really handle and what can be expected from one. This is NOT a beginners airframe but can be built with a mid motor to lessen most damage if needed. I had some fun working on this project and Susan wasn't around to consult on some music for it so I take the blame.

Thanks Kosh, for putting the video together. Maybe some day we will get a nice sunny day over on the "dry, sunny" side of the state and the videos will be a bit clearer.
