Super Cub firewall
#1

How does one remove the firewall on the SuperCub? I KNOW there's 4 pins that hold it into the fuselage but it seems to be glued/taped in as well.Has anyone come accross this?
Thanks,

There is no WAY that the firewall can be removed that I can tell. It's put on with 4 long pins that go into the fuselage.....BUT...it's applied with some kind of plastic caulk type of stuff and I can see no way to remove it without destroying the fuselge in the process.
My wonderment is in why do they even make the part if it can't be changed?
Go figure.....

Hello Zoo,
I have a Supercub and am no expert but have made a couple of "upgraded" motor mounts for it ..
Can I ask you why you want to remove that part ? Is there some way to work around removing it to achieve what you want ??
Thanks .... Nosy.. Don J.

Hi... I just crashed my Super Cub and the Firewall cracked and fell off from the Fuse. I bought a replacement for it, however, there does not seem to be a way to remove the engine because it is too wide and does not fit through the hole supplied in the firewall, another stroke of genius. Has anyone ever done this without removing the solder and re-soldering it back?

Soldering is part of this hobby. Best learn how to do it now.
re the firewall, sorry ...I never had to remove mine. Most glues can be cut with an Exacto knife carefully applied. If not that, then a heated blade, carefully slid around the mount... may slice it off. I often heat up a box cutter or Exacto knife with a heat gun/blow drier/propane torch. Be careful and don't melt too much foam, though. Rich

Thank you so much for your reply, I appreciate it. Actually, the firewall came off & cracked in the accident and I am trying to figure out how to put the new one back. I guess I will use the old standby, 5 minute epoxy, that should work. I did have to use the soldering iron, so again, thanks for the advise... Also, I learned that I could have avoided all the damage by turning off the motor prior to impact. It was the spinning prop hitting the ground that caused all the damage...

Consider using prop savers (not prop adapters) if you can. Something similar to this (see below) will save lots of broken parts, and even the prop itself much of time. www.lazertoyz.com Rich

Zoo, To remove the motor mount is not so hard!!!! Just peal off as much of the old white caulk as you can then pull the old mount off. I used A hot glue gun to remount my motor mount. Good luck from the ZOOK

Hi, thanks for the info... I never thought of using a hot glue gun, I did not think it was strong enough to hold the spinning motor. I am going to try that since I have not re-attached the motor to the firewall, to the fuse. I am just a little concerned about doing it because a few small pieces of the foam have broken off and I am worried about getting the fit just right or the motor will be a little off center and I am sure that would not be a good thing...

Zoo, Trust me hot glue will hold your motor mount! Also if you crash another you can Peel if off and replace it again, also if will fill in some missing foam. Blue sky's from the north west gerogia mt's

I use Gorilla glue when I had to replace my firewall. It foams up and fills in the gaps of missing foam. At this point in time 1/2 of the the first .5 inch of my cub is made from gorilla glue.
I leave it as an excercise to look up on wattflyer how to correctly use gorilla glue.
