Default Wrench66's 3rd entry contest #2 "Tee Tail SQD"

Here's one I've been wanting to build for quite sometime.....Chellie's SQD!
Now....of course for this contest and me being me.....I HAD to modify it in some shape or form
I had never flown a Delta before (is a Stryker a delta or a wing??) so I was building a real unknown this time.
I used 9mm Depron throughout the plane, hardwood motor stick and that great bi-directional 3M tape for the control hinges. The most obvious deviation from Ms. C's original thread is the DC-9 style T-tail. It wasn't as much an add-on as it was in my mind from the very start of the build.
OK, specs:
Length.....22in from motor mount back to the elevon inner edges.
WS.........23in
power......Turnigy 2209/26 1130kv spinning an 8x6 gws "black" prop.
Battery....Zippy 3s 500mah OR Zippy 3s 1000mah
Radio gear...Hitec 04 RX, 9gr blue servos from Hobby City
ESC............Hobby City "Super Simple" 20a

Pics and video coming up

Here's where we all begin from huh?
An idea, or plans, and some foam and a sharp xacto.

I love to build......blame Chellie first, trouble-maker that!

lol

Default The original "hey, let's build AND fly this today" plane

This little go'r is a very quick build......plan on cutting and glueing just after breakfast and by mid-day you'll be through the maiden and loving it!
I decided to add the little circular "landing pads" on the lower side because I never have any luck landing a belly flopper and NOT breaking a prop (or breaking the entire nose of the plane off.....man, that bites). Even using the rubber band type prop adapter, still was a gamble.
I took the shape of Chellie's model and added a couple more degrees of angle on the sides of the wing and into the elevons. By cutting the angles a bit more severely I helped the plane hopefully survive the occasional landing strip cartwheel by all but eliminating some of the square edges that could end up fracturing. Now of course NOT crashing would help here but I can't ask that much of MY flying abilities!! hehe.

OK, she's a flyer! Here's the finished product complete with fancy-shmancy paint stripes
Please enjoy the short video (so sorry for the crummy resolution, I finally got a camcorder but it's a bit older and lacks the sharp focusing I would like....bummer, guess it's back to the Kodak digital)) and thanks for following along on this quick build.
IF you ever thought "I wonder if I could fly a Delta wing?" then this is YOUR plane! It's as easy to fly as any other rudderless plane (gotta use a bit of elevator in the turns to keep her nose up) and prolly floats in even better. Fun for an experienced flyer AND a novice pilot, and it's quite crash resistant (oopsy )

Good luck!
