J Power Eurofighter Hobby Lobby Purchase

We think this is gonna be a cool one. We had to buy it as relpacement parts and the box was huge. And unfortunately the fuse part was cracked in shipping. It's a twin 64mm EDF that we got during the sale last week. Seen a few 64mm EDFs now and this one is a good looker.

We've repaired the cracked fuse. Now have to decide on power system. Would like to do it as a twin 64mm EDF with these motor fan combos http://hobbycity.com/hobbycity/store...d__252W(4300kv) and 40A super simple cheapie ESCs . But I know even with a 4 cell battery I'll be looking at a 4 min flight time. The other option is to make it a pusher with a decent 4000 kv motor and a 2600ma 3 cell battery could probably get 7 or 8 min flights and it would be lighter and faster. I am fairly happy with the crushed fuse repair . You almost can't tell it was damaged. Not bad for a $78. airframe

Hi, Alphea, I just had a bad experience with the 64mm EDF.
I install a new 64 mm. Sanded the blade tip so that there is ample gap between shroud and the blade. Installed with minimal vibration .
In spite of all this precautions, after the 3rd flight in mid flight, the blade broke.
I guess the blade is weak.I had 3 blade broken in mid flight with this 64mm EDF.
I probably will not use this EDF until the manufacturer (RICCS) have improve and strengthened the impeller blade.
I was using 3.9KV motor most of the time and only once with a 4.3kv motor and a 30 amps ESC.

Cheers

Yeah, I know about Chinese fans breaking in flight. I have had it happen to 2 of the $13. Hobby King units. I'm thinking of breaking them in by boiling them in water for a few minutes. To try to make the blades less brittle. The best performing unit I had was a 3mm shafted motor that I put a E-Flight 65mm fan unit on.

I make a light scratch where the blade join the hub and then add epoxy to strengthened the joining portion. Re-balance the blade after the epoxy hardened and looks like it is holding up.
More time and test needed to confirm if this method will strengthen the blade and prevent the blade from breaking during flying.

Kirsty , We got it part by part as replacement pieces. Go to spare parts and order all the airframe pieces. We now are planning the power system. It's extreamly light airframe and I almost want to make it a pusher to keep it light. Here's the page with all the spare parts http://www.hobby-lobby.com/rc_airpla...er_id_195=5|19 We got Fuselage, Wing Set, Vert. Tail, Canopy nose cone , and landing gear at 20% off for $78. plus 14 shipping. If you go this route ask them to double box the fuselage and not just bubble wrap it because it's delicate and ours was slightly crushed in shipping. But we repaired it good as new.

Well guys and girl I did it. Built it as a pusher..... I'm a turn coat.

I just couldn't rationalize twin EDFs and 4 min. poor performance flights. I put a Turnigy 2217-16 = 450 23A motor on it. It's AUW is 28 oz. It has thrust to weight of greater than 1 to 1 it draws 12A at 200 watts on a 7x5 E prop with a 1300ma 20c 4s Zippy Li Po . We should be able to hand launch it straight up verticle ( How many EDFs can do that???)And the math figures at 6 min flights of W O T...
I will get video of the maiden tomorrow. The power system costs $43. Verses about $150. for decent 64mm fans ,ESCs and 4 cell battery and $300. for top end power systems. Tomorrow I'll know if it's a flyer. I guess this thread needs to be moved to the Pusher Forum

Its Just 11:01 Pm here in So Calif., I am Just starting to Wake up
Whats new with you ? I just moved into a new house, in the high Desert in Hesperia calif, the house is about 5 years old, I got it for 125.000 US Dollars, and its on a 1/2 Acre lot, there is a flying field about 1 mile from me
I hope they can put up with me
Take care, Chellie

$125k is about £75k UK...that would maybe get a 2 bedroom flat with NO garden or loand outside, I would say you have a bargain Chellie.
1 mile to nearest flying field...you are so lucky, you can make a trailer & ride a bike to that..I would. I cycle 3 miles per day takign my 3 year old to school..its fun in the sun

Next I will multiply the current by 20 or 15 to determine the max capacity of the battery. (factor 20 for smallest capacity and 15 for longest flight)
Lastly, I will modified the battery compartment so that it can have space to
for the largets capacity battery base on 20 or 15 times the combine EDF current the twin EDF sucks.
That way I can fit most batteries.
Anyway good for you. Pusher, longer and lighter pack.

Maiden flight went well and likewise the following 3 flights. This picture says some about our maiden test pilot Minni Steve
I think he did this pass on the second flight. And I got lucky and caught it in the frame . It doesn't quite have verticle thrust but it's very close it flys nice and almost perfect except at full throttle it needs a little up elevator mixing. But all went well and I'm happy I made it a pusher.

Any of you people that think taking a cool twin EDF and converting it to a pusher is foolish
This video is for you http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4uYfZb-WzFM This is a nice picture of it in flight .... Even tho the prop shows
