Default Servo Issue?

Have a flap servo that intermittently makes a "chattering" noise for lack of a better word. So if I flip to half flaps, servo moves and then once it stops, will occasionally makes this noise. Move flaps again, noise stops. Something tells me it's on it's way out? First time I've ever come across this. I've made sure it's not over travelling etc. so not sure what it is. Any ideas?

Chattering indicates its moving tiny amount back and forth very fast ... or is it just buzzing ?

Chattering where its moving a tiny amount very fast about the desired point is indicating worn servo and poor ability to stabilise ...

If its buzzing - then that usually indicates a stiff hinge or servo is finding a bit of resistance to its movement.

To decide which it is can you do this simple test ?

Pick any other servo on the model that is accessible ... you do not remove it ... just power up the models radio side and then put a finger on the servo and just give it a little push against the arm ... you will hear it BUZZ as it fights to stay put. If its that sound you are getting on your 'bad servo' - then check the freeness of travel of the hinges ...

If this servo is on an extension, de-mate and remate the connectors a few times to scrub off any corrosion. A bad contact can cause such problems.

Thank you both - Nigel's post about not being able to stabilize got me looking a little closer. The push rod runs very close to the wing and the keeper was binding a little. Cut away a lit chunk of foam and no more chattering for now :-)

old thread but perhaps someone is still monitoring it. Now I have yet another servo (rudder) that's chattering. Was working just fine. If I give right rudder and when the servo goes back to center, it chatters back and forth. If i touch the stick it stops. Not binding on anything. What I did see that if I set servo travel to over 100%, chatter dissipates until I hit a point (over travel wise) that it's gone completely. Any idea why over travel kills this chatter?
